About
Torah Meirah is a project by David Raitan: a weekly essay on the parasha, and a Judaism of nobility, responsibility and excellence.
Who I am
My name is David Raitan. I love Torah, read a lot and keep learning. I am not a rabbi, and I am still on the way; that is exactly why I feel responsible to share what I learn and to invite others to learn with me. As the Sages taught: "and from my students, most of all."
Why Torah Meirah
"For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light" (Proverbs 6:23). I believe in a beautiful Judaism: deep, pleasant and proud. A Judaism that keeps halacha and explains the why, that is engaged with the world rather than withdrawn from it, and that sees excellence, integrity and giving as the service of God.
Who I learn from
Rabbi Jonathan Sacks is my greatest influence. Alongside him: Maimonides, Nachmanides, Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, Rabbi Ben-Zion Meir Hai Uziel, Manitou, Rav Yehuda Amital, and the classical Sephardi tradition.
